Welcome to Enviromummy! My name is Liz and I live in Wellington, New Zealand, with my husband, our two crazy dogs, and our beautiful new baby boy.
I wanted to start this blog as a way to record and remember the exciting and precious early days with my new baby, and also to address some of the challenges I’m facing trying to retain at least some of my eco-principles as a new parent!
If you’re a parent you’ll no doubt have noticed the HUGE industry built around babies and kids. Most of it tries to take advantage of stressed out, time-poor parents (like me!) by offering easy, convenient and often disposable solutions. What’s more, there is a confusing array of products that you’ve probably never encountered before, that are now going to be a part of your and your kids’ daily lives. How do you know exactly what’s in all these products? BPA, fire-retardants, and all sorts of scary things the internet tells me I need to avoid! Eeek!!
The truth is it’s a balancing act. Sometimes the convenience factor outweighs my desire to be green. However, there are also times when I don’t want to compromise and the extra effort or expense is worth it for me and my baby.
Follow me as I make my way through the confusion that is being a first time parent, and who knows, maybe my journey will help you to find new ways to be an enviromummy or daddy too!
